Matthew Riley

Development Director

What do you do at Be Broken? I have the privilege of ministering to Be Broken's Champions (those who support us financially). A large part of that ministry is helping connect people with different ways to support those on the Transformation Pathway: praying, serving, telling, investing, and/or learning. Ultimately, I am responsible for making sure Be Broken has the resources necessary to operate.

What brought you to Be Broken? Like those we serve, I lived in sexual brokenness for more than two decades. I first got connected to Be Broken through my 12-step sponsor, who was a Gateway to Freedom alumni. As I progressed in recovery, I also needed to seek a new career. Providentially, I came to the conclusion that I wanted to be a Development Director for a sexual wholeness ministry. A few days later I found out Be Broken was beginning a search for that very position.

Favorite passage of Scripture? "Therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle" (2 Thessalonians 2:15).

What do you do in your time off? I love reading to my wife, playing games with my four teenagers, working on house projects, and reading. As a family, we spend a lot of time worshipping together with brothers and sisters at our church.

If you could have a superpower, what would it be, and why? I would say "fly", except I'm afraid of heights. With that not being an option, I would like to have super-strength. Very practical for working around the house and helping others.

Favorite food/drink? There is a bean-based hotpot common in Guizhou Province, China (where I once lived) that is phenomenal. My favorite additions to the soup are fried pork, assorted mushrooms, pig skin, and tofu skin. One of the best parts of this type of meal is the communal nature and the fellowship that always happens with the hotpot as the centerpiece.
